The desk is crowded, covered in parts, prototypes, material samples, servos that are to undergo durability testing.
You feel around, careful not to knock things down, you recognize the shapes and textures.
Familiar items.
Fiber-reinforced polymers, rubbery pseudo-skin patches, neural harnesses, mechanical joints made of polished carbide steel, a box containing new human-like finger pads...
No phone.

Shelves cover the wall on either sides of the desk, to the left is a row of Rapid Prototyping Units, these can turn digital models into usable parts in a matter of minutes. The right wall opens on the inverse kinematics testing ground.
Two parts racks take up the center of the room, separating your desk from the door.

Hard polymer moves away, the robotic limb sways limply, rattling against the others hanging there.
Defective or obsolete, in varying states of disassembly.
You follow the rack, hands spread forward.

You lunge away for the rack, toward the wall. Hands forward, you meet the hard surface and immediately press your back against it.

Blood pounds deafeningly to your ears.
